Hi, my name is Greg and I run a Dual PC setup. My current i7 7820xe isn’t handling all the overlays and multi-source scenes smoothly. I’m considering an upgrade and wondering which processor would work best for Streamlabs OBS encoding. Should it have more cores or higher clock speeds? I’d prefer a CPU focused on productivity rather than gaming. I want to stick with Intel but know Threadripper is strong for performance. Price isn’t a concern since my stream is successful, and I’m not looking to spend a lot. I don’t want to code in the Nvedec style—just want solid x264 support. Any advice or recommendations would be really helpful. Thanks!

Threadripper isn't ideal for streaming unless you handle multiple encodes simultaneously. Using 3900X or 3950X should suffice for a single high-quality stream.

It seems you're experiencing issues with synchronization when using multiple threads in OBS. Increasing the clock speed might help, and enhancing your GPU could also be beneficial. The best solution depends on your specific setup.

I suggest a 3900x. They just lowered the price, and 12c/24t could really disrupt streaming. A 3950x would be better if you need more power, but I think Threadripper isn’t essential right now.
