Hello, good day. I just moved from 3570 to 4790k with the H97M-E motherboard, since I only have an M-ATX case. About a week ago I did the upgrade and now I’m already noticing the high temperatures on the board. It was around 120°C right after installation, but in ASUS BIOS it shows only 41°C, just like with ASUS AI Suite 3. Speccy, HWmonitor, HWinfo and Speedfan all confirm it’s 120°C. Speedfan even says the main board is 41°C, matching ASUS BIOS and Suite 3. I got this second-hand board, not sure if that’s the reason. Thanks ahead and any advice would be great!

Looks like a faulty temp sensor somewhere.

It's about figuring out what's correct and what's not.

Likely correct for the VRMs that appear exposed and not submerged. Add a fan on em'

It’s clear the 100°C reading isn’t accurate. If the CPU was showing those temperatures, the system would have stopped working—likely due to a faulty motherboard. Try touching the heatsinks or moving your hand close to see if you feel any heat. It probably isn’t there.

The VRMs lack heat sinks.

That angle doesn't make sense, you can definitely cook with it.

Experience the VRM directly, and you'll understand clearly.

Store the BIOS configuration and reinitialize it. Verify if the problem continues.

Yes, 110°C on VRMs works. They should handle it, though they might begin throttling at that temperature.
