Board - quick startup?
I need to assemble a PC that's fully operational right away. Therefore, the main question is: which motherboard boots the quickest? I’m used to the older Asrock B75M Pro3-M model, where booting from the power button to Windows 8.1 (with hibernation enabled) took roughly eight seconds using a Crucial M4 SSD and an integrated graphics card. That was quite some time back. Is it faster now or comparable? My own X570 Aorus Elite requires over twenty seconds for the same process, even with a faster NVMe SSD and a much quicker CPU. I understand comparisons aren’t perfect, but my current system has a dedicated GPU and a different design. From what I can see, boot times are influenced by the motherboard (platform + vendor code), CPU performance, GPU settings in BIOS, network cards (wireless is slow!), and storage devices (SATA might outpace NVMe during startup). Still, it’s likely that any modern Intel chip could outperform most AMD options in this area. I’m excluding OEM parts and notebook setups. Anyone have insights on this?
I recall correctly, the fast boot option bypasses some initial checks a system performs during startup. I don’t use it since it often leads to problems. Regarding the slow boot time, it might be due to having multiple operating systems and choosing which one to start. Your current experience is about 10 seconds, but that’s because you’re managing two OSes and selecting the boot option manually.
Absolutely, quick startup bypasses certain checks and device drivers to start up faster. Usually it's not a major issue, though it does improve boot time. I'm not upset about my current setup. I plan to try another build with emphasis on speed. I believe an i5-9400 (iGPU) paired with an Asrock B365M PRO4 (Intel LAN) and NVMe or Optane could be efficient for booting. But I'm still figuring it out...
