No components have been purchased yet. The h610 offers fewer features compared to the b660, and typical boards tend to be low-end, which can undermine the value of a 13th generation upgrade route if you opt for a very low-end model. However, choosing a mid-range board with decent VRMs might make a 13500 a more attractive upgrade option, as it’s actually raptorlake rather than the 13400, which is merely a locked 12600k. If you’re constrained to a very weak board with poor VRMs, it seems more sensible to go with a Ryzen setup using a used b3/450 board. You could still maintain an upgrade path by acquiring a used RX 6700 XT if you haven’t done so yet, and possibly adding a few other used items like a case or PSU. This way, you can purchase a solid b660 without overspending and still have room for a 13500 upgrade later.
