Your device is using 802.11n mode even though you're connected to a 5GHz Wi-Fi network. This can happen due to driver settings or network configuration. Check your network adapter properties in Task Manager to confirm the mode and adjust if needed.

Run a speed test to check current performance. If speeds fall short of 5G, adjust the router settings to prioritize maximum throughput via the Max Throughput option, as available on Netgear devices. This helps optimize data transmission across each network band.

I configured the gateway to operate in AC and N mode since the setting doesn't allow just AC mode.

The adapter tool indicates AC mode, while Task Manager displays N mode... What's going on?

Use your own router; ISP models often cause issues. Having a personal modem also makes a difference.

Looking for a solid router under $100 that works with DD-WRT?

It matters because the connection point determines the actual speed you receive. Even if the label says a certain speed, the real performance depends on how well that connection works.

I believe enabling AC mode reduces latency. I'm attempting to launch Google Project Stream.

However, verify its real performance. Something similar to iperf3 should run on a wired PC while the wireless one is checked for maximum speed between them. It looks probable here that the adapter tool is causing Windows to report differently, though it’s not necessarily an issue if it works. If it bothers you, there might be an option to install the driver without the utility to see if reporting changes. Also, are you certain you’re using Task Manager? My version doesn’t display any WiFi details at all. I only notice that when you click on WiFi, then SSID and select Properties. Are you not using Windows 10?
