Bluetooth issues with Wi-Fi adapter under moderate to heavy GPU usage on Windows 11
My motherboard lacks built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, so I added a PCIe card to gain those features. The Wi-Fi functions properly, but Bluetooth tends to behave inconsistently. During heavy tasks—whether playing demanding games or streaming videos—I notice audio issues with my headphones: they stutter, distort, or cut out completely. Sometimes the device manager flags an error, saying no drivers are installed (though updates are current), and other times it throws a Code 43 warning. I can usually fix it by toggling Bluetooth in the Action Center or Device Manager, but the problems persist. Occasionally, reconnecting the headphones resolves the issue, yet the cycle repeats when I return to intense work.
Other times, I’m unlucky: Windows simply reports that the device can’t connect, and I must turn Bluetooth off in the Action Center. If I try again, it turns gray and disappears. After a few seconds, I see a “USB device not recognized” alert, indicating a malfunction. Device Manager strips the Bluetooth entry, showing an unknown USB device under Universal Serial Bus controllers. The properties display Code 43 with a failure message.
Trying workarounds includes uninstalling the problematic USB, shutting down the PC, unplugging it briefly, reconnecting, and restarting. This often restores Bluetooth in Device Manager, allowing me to pair my headphones again. However, once I resume heavy tasks, the issues return.
My setup includes:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G (TPU II & Precision Boost)
- Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
- Board: Asus ROG Strix B550-F Gaming ATX AM4 (BIOS 3002)
- RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 32 GB (XMP/DOCP)
- Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 NVME
- GPU: MSI MECH 2X OC Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB
- Power: Asus ROG Strix G 1000 W 80+ Gold ATX
- OS: Windows 11 Home (64-bit)
- Headphones: Jabra Elite 45h Wi-Fi/Bluetooth
- Card: Asus WiFi 6E + Bluetooth 5.2 PCI-E
I’ve tried: drivers, disabling overclocking, testing multiple Bluetooth devices, adjusting settings, and even changing cables or power supplies. Some fixes helped temporarily—like unplugging peripherals, moving the PC closer to devices, or using wired alternatives. Still, the Bluetooth glitches remain a persistent challenge.
Tinkering with settings, disabling audio enhancements, and updating BIOS didn’t resolve the problem. Changing USB dongles or reseating components helped only in rare cases. I’m open to suggestions, but so far, no simple solution has worked. Wired peripherals seem to be the only reliable option at the moment.
Running DDU significantly improved my GPU’s driver status, enhancing Bluetooth performance. Headphones delivered crisp sound without stutters even during heavy use—though audio quality faded quickly and lag became apparent. Disabling and re-enabling Bluetooth resolved the issue temporarily. Using AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition to update the GPU driver again triggered the Bluetooth problem. It’s unclear what’s happening, but I’ll continue experimenting.
I haven’t managed to get Bluetooth working on my Wi-Fi card yet. However, inserting a cheap Bluetooth adapter into a standard USB port seems to fix the issue. It feels like there might be some unusual hardware or manufacturing problems with my setup that are preventing it. I’m not sure what else could be causing this. I’ll consider testing this idea later when I upgrade my system a few years from now.
