I assembled my PC in early 2020, this was the first and only build. It hasn’t had XMP activated since yesterday. The motherboard is an x570 gigabyte gaming card, 2700x, 3060, with two 8GB GSKILL Ripjaws DDR4-3600 modules. No overclocking has been done. When I turn on the XMP profile 1, it crashes immediately at startup—especially when I try to play something like Tarkov or Resident Evil 3. If left idle, it also freezes and takes a long time. Anyone have any ideas? How often does this happen? From what I’ve seen in all the videos about PC building, enabling XMP is usually fine—even on friends’ systems I built without issues. Maybe it’s just a lack of awareness. Thanks everyone!
I also encounter these two error messages when my system crashes. They read “Kmode exception not handled” and “unexpected kernel mode trap.” Could they offer any useful insights? Thanks for your assistance. A colleague suggested I try the advice you mentioned.
It looks quite normal. I’ve faced similar problems with the previous two motherboards and four RAM kits—I usually need to boost the voltage once I turn on XMP. Having RAM installed on your motherboards might also make a difference.
The 2700X is a Zen+ CPU that can run up to 2933 MHz. On a solid board with good RAM, you might get 3000 or 3200 MHz. If all four slots are filled, performance could drop below 2933 MHz. Your XMP setting is 3600, but the RAM controller on this CPU can't support that speed.
