Blue screen issues may signal damaged RAM or driver problems
Last month I faced numerous blue screen issues and occasional game crashes without any visual errors, only receiving warnings from the Radeon software. My computer tends to crash mainly during gaming sessions but also when chatting with friends on Discord. I've looked up possible fixes online. I attempted to reinstall the GPU drivers, but it had no effect. My PC was upgraded around December last year, and I suspect the RAM might be faulty. I'm hoping someone can share more insights about these problems. The errors I encountered include: UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL You can review the details in the attached images. My system runs a Ryzen 7 2700x, has an Asrock b450m steel legend RAM, Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX with 2x8GB at 3200MHz, an R9 280x GPU, a C16 case, 128GB M.2 storage, and a 1TB hard drive connected to a 650W PSU with an 80+ white cooler. The display is MSI Optix MAG27C, and I'm using Windows 10 Home.
I experienced a BSOD caused by the ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY driver a few months ago. It seemed to happen periodically. After removing all AMD chipset drivers completely and reinstalling them fresh, the issue resolved—this might be useful for you.
In my opinion, every fresh PC setup or CPU/RAM upgrade should include a 24-hour RAM check. It might be a hassle to be without the machine for that time, but you'll appreciate it later. Additionally, after tweaking RAM or CPU parameters—like overclocking—running the test again is strongly advised to confirm everything works correctly. Often, RAM problems stem from timing issues rather than hardware failure.
