Black screen on PC, but sound works and fans run full speed.
My computer crashes unexpectedly under various conditions, showing a black screen while I can still interact with it but can't see anything. Fans spin at full speed. I've checked driver and chipset updates, scanned for malware, and removed viruses, yet nothing resolves the issue. My system has a Ryzen 7 5800X, B550 motherboard, 3080 chipset, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 3200/1050W PSU, and multiple hard drives. Any advice or steps I should take?
Early today it failed repeatedly while loading Grounded and YouTube, often right after startup.
Not here anymore since I’m in college, but everything changed when I got the 3080 instead of the 5700xt
It's likely the GPU is the issue. To confirm, open YouTube or another service and check Task Manager for high GPU usage. If it's elevated, the GPU is probably the culprit.
I don’t understand how to refresh or verify the only changes I’ve made so far. The updates I’ve tried were for the motherboard chipset and GPU drivers, plus checking all software. If you need guidance, a tutorial video would help, and I can point you to the right resources. Also, whether this affects your monitor setup is unclear.
Check your motherboard details using CPU-Z and the BIOS version. Visit the manufacturer's site to locate the board, support, downloads, and BIOS files. Update the BIOS if needed. Then head to AMD's website for drivers and chipset updates. Access the GPU section, locate downloads, and find the firmware or BIOS. This is not from Google.
