Hello! I'm really worried about this situation. My computer keeps rebooting too often. Sometimes the screen turns off and the fans spin at full speed for a few seconds, then I hear sounds from games or Discord while others can hear me. After that, the noise stops and the screen goes black with fans running hard (RGB lights on GPU and other parts). This happens randomly, especially when browsing the web or playing games. The only solution is to press the reset button. It might take a couple of days or happen 10-15 times in one evening. It started after I swapped my graphics card from the 3080 to the 4090 Gigabyte Gaming OC. Temperatures are very low on both CPU and GPU, including VRAM. My current specs are:
- GPU: MB-Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Master (4090 GB)
- CPU: Intel i9 10900K
- RAM: Ballistix 3600 64GB/4, 3600MHz
- SSD: XPG GAMMIX PCIe 2TB NVMe, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB NVMe, Crucial P5 2TB NVMe
- HDD: Toshiba 7200RPM, 4TB AIO
- Case: Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420W, 1300W PSU, EVGA Supernova G Plus
- Monitor: Fractal Design Meshify 2 XL, LG 34GN850-B

I tried everything to fix it: reinstalling drivers, using DDU with boot flash, running Syscheck, testing RAM, updating BIOS, changing drivers, installing fake OSes, adjusting power settings, and more. Still nothing worked. I even replaced the cooling fan and checked cables multiple times. The problem seems linked to the GPU change.

I know I'm not a tech expert, but I only have basic knowledge for these steps. My PC is my main comfort. What should I do next? Any tips or things I should check?

Probably have some dirty power that causes the sensitive 4090 to freak out. A ups should do the trick

It seems there’s a power problem—either your PSU is underpowered (stress testing isn’t ideal for this) or there’s an issue with your home’s electricity supply. Possibly both. I’d recommend having an electrician inspect the setup.

I considered it. Are there any particular models you're interested in for your project?

Yes, you can check your own electricity by using a multimeter or a smart meter app. Make sure it’s safe and consult local guidelines before testing.

Request someone to check the wiring and confirm they understand the requirements. For upgrades, review an AOC with sufficient capacity.

I also experience a black screen with completely erratic fans, even when idle. I’m using an MSI suprim x 4090 on a cablemod c series pro modflex, 4x8pin, mounted vertically, without any strain on the adapter inside a lian-li o11 dynamic evo case. This setup has been in use for three months without any problems until recently. I’ve logged a constant GPU-Z temperature report, even with manual fan adjustments, but the readings aren’t showing anything abnormal.

To reference: following the cablemod support recommendation, setting the “prefer max performance” option in the NVIDIA control panel, along with updating drivers and re-seating the card, has reduced crashes to just one every 1-2 days. However, recently it’s only occurred during idle or while browsing Firefox (odd but recorded). Running it at full capacity—like in games such as Plague Tale: Requiem or Cyberpunk without DLSS—for 20 hours straight without a crash was possible until I closed it manually.

To note: switching back to the original NVIDIA splitter resolved the issue, though I haven’t used that cable before.

Based on other online discussions, it appears the problem might be with the cable itself or driver compatibility. Given the timing (late December), it seems the cable may be faulty, causing power sensing failures and crashes. I plan to test an OEM Corsair 600W cable next week when it arrives, but since this model hasn’t been used before, I’ll check again after delivery.

Hello, I got the Corsair VGA PCIe5.0 12VHPWR (CP-8920284) yesterday. It’s a long, rigid cable compared to the cablemod version. I’ve been running it for about 18 hours without any issues, which means I disabled the “prefer max performance” option in NVIDIA control panel. Up to now, everything looks fine. The cablemod seems completely intact with no signs of damage… so aside from what I observed, I’m still puzzled about the problem. Based on my notes and photos, it seems the issue might have been resolved by switching to cablemod.

My results appear to be verified after four days with the Corsair cable. I’m certain there were no problems encountered. Let me know if this assists others with similar concerns.
