I strongly dislike stretching; it gives the mouse an odd sensation.

The issue is that it doesn't stretch and black bars appear on the sides!

Stretching changes the intended picture. What makes sense is that you need a distorted view. Your cursor will appear to glide quicker along the horizontal screen space than the vertical one. The 4:3 display options exist for older CRTs like CRTs. You should choose a resolution matching your monitor's aspect ratio. If not, it depends on GPU and monitor settings. Someone with an NVIDIA GPU can assist you.

If you're accustomed to 16:9, stick with it. Changing to another ratio isn't necessary since professionals are familiar with it.

Top-notch players often favor 16:9 aspect ratios like forest or shroud, while I favor wider fields of view at 16:9 compared to narrower 4:3 options.

I’m the only one who adjusts the scaling to match the resolution on the Nvidia CP, then add the -stretch to your launch commands. This removes the 4:3 black bars and gives you a 4:3 stretched layout.

For everyone advising OP to stick with native settings, just pause and observe this. If you still wish to dismiss it as a placebo or claim it’s silly, cool—just don’t comment if you can’t assist with the problem. Personally, I noticed a shift in my skill when playing in 4:3 stretched; after years of CS in 16:9, I adapted quickly and now prefer 4:3 for CS. It’s all about personal taste, but saying playing in a non-native aspect ratio is foolish shows a lack of understanding. @clangeid you too had concerns—try tweaking your Nvidia settings and the monitor’s display menu, as there may be options available. Here are my current settings: Nvidia control panel; disable the checkbox labeled “Overstyr skaleringsmodusen som er konfigurert av spill og programmer” if it’s interfering. If that doesn’t help, let me know and I can share my CSGO configuration for reference.
