Bitrate for OBS configuration
Bitrate for OBS configuration
What bitrate works well in OBS depends on your setup and goals. For recording gameplay with overlays and a webcam, aim for around 8–12 Mbps for HD quality. Higher bitrates (like 16+ Mbps) are possible but may strain older laptops. Test different settings to find the best balance between quality and performance.
Try it yourself and see what works well without creating large files. I used shadowplay at 50Mbps and it looked great, though the recording programs vary.
At 1080p with 30 frames per second, 16Mbps provides a balanced quality. Increasing the rate improves sharpness but leads to larger files.
TwitchTV sets the limit at 3.5Mbps, which many streamers think works well for 720p at 60fps. Some also see it as suitable for 1080p at 60fps. For recording, you can push it higher and reduce quality slightly during editing.
