Bitlocker on USB or a password is feasible.
Hi, so I have been trying to figure this out for a bit now, im trying to do bitlocker encryption on my NVME drive, which has Windows on it. The only issue is that I want to be able to use a password as sort of a 'backup' method if the USB isint plugged in. In other words, if im at my PC and the USB is plugged in and I rebooted it, it would just use the USB to authorize it. But if I were to take the USB out and reboot my PC, it would then prompt for a password. Is this possible in any way, I haven't found anything online.
I acknowledge the possibility of being incorrect, but I think without a TPM module on your motherboard, you’ll need to enter the password each time you start up. It’s unclear if using a USB key would provide an alternative method for unlocking.
I managed to install password bitlocker on this machine before, even though it lacks a TPM module. However, I’m having trouble locating an option to enable it via USB.
You can install BitLocker on a motherboard without a TPM, and USB is likely the main method for this since BitLocker needs to store encryption keys there. Check out this guide to find out if it works for you: https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/6229/how...thout-tpm/
I discovered the method by setting the 'Allow Bitlocker without a compatible TPM' group policy. Then I encrypted the drive, chose PASSWORD instead of USB, entered your password, and pressed the button to save the file to a USB. After encryption, it should boot normally when the USB is connected; otherwise, it will ask for the password.
