Have you considered trying different titles or series that don’t require playing the prior ones? I’ve heard positive feedback about Infinate, Witcher 3, and Mass Effect 3, but I haven’t played any of the earlier games. I usually avoid them unless I really want to. I enjoy RPGs with a controller and prefer older games since they lack modern support. Any suggestions for similar experiences?

It's believed that Bioshock Infinite serves as a continuation of the stories in 1 and 2.

You can enjoy Bioshock Infinite without needing to go through the earlier titles. Still, I suggest doing so. The initial game is considered one of the top titles of its time for valid reasons. For Mass Effect 3, I’d recommend following the previous ones to grasp the narrative. Likewise, I advise playing other games too, as they (especially Mass Effect 2) have earned significant praise from critics. The Witcher 3 does a solid introduction, allowing you to jump in without needing the rest.

like blueprint said, infinite is fine to play without 1&2 (although I highly recommend at least 2 cause its awesome). I've never played witcher 1 or 2 but I love 3 so far and dont feel too lost. I've barely played mass effect despite owning it for a while, wasnt that impressed personally (edit: someday I'll give it a second go round). Far cry 4 is awesome and 3 is not bad either but not at all related story wise

Bioshock infinite is an excellent title. You don’t have to try the others first.

I played Farcry 2 mostly online and found it really fun. I usually don’t dive deep into the stories or lore, but I still wish I could better understand the goals and background.

Yes, major choices made in the initial two moments play a key role in shaping each character's fate, and their outcomes will carry greater weight as a result.

Also consider a dim vision of Mordor with limited knowledge of Lord of the Rings.

Absolutely. It really helped because you understood and valued those characters; otherwise, just going through the motions without connection feels dull.
