That's a tough question. Running Bioshock on your Radeon 9550 without any patches seems unlikely, especially with the texture issues you described. It probably depends on whether you installed the necessary updates or mods for the game.

the baseline is p4, but i own a sempron 2800+ which performs better than p4. why can i do it while you can't?

It doesn't matter much. The game feels very young, about eight years old. Most cards today are strong enough to win easily.

He needed to use patch for the game because that specific card wouldn't function without it, which is a DX9 card. I also managed to run it smoothly once I installed the right patches on my ATI HD9600 256MB card.
