Someone else is facing the same issue with updating their MSI mobos to version 1.70 on February 26th. The person using Dragon Center encountered black screens after the PC boots, requiring a CMOS reset. They’re wondering if there’s a solution or if they missed something. A friend mentioned needing a USB connection to the flash bios port during updates, but that seems unclear.
Your friend's comments are accurate. MSI provides Windows BIOS updates, which are among many available choices. You're correct in thinking you're on the right track. I haven't updated my BIOS recently, and I have the same board. It's unclear why you'd care. Also, the release date listed is 1,70 with a February update? I only see the 7C37v17 with a release date of 13-1-2020.
Actually, I wasn't aware you needed a USB for the BIOS update. I also have the same version as you, just the January release instead of February. I think I'm current, but it seems the update is labeled v. 1.70 even though only v. 1.60 is available. Not sure what MSI intended here, hehe.
I think you misinterpretted me. You can both update from windows and from a usb stick, they're both supported. The windows one is thru the dragon center, and the usb stick is via bios or the flashback option. There is the V17, i'm geussing that translates to Version 1.70. But to be honest, if you're not experiencing any issues, don't worry about updating. Unless you need specific improvements that are included in a bios update, i wouldn't recommend updating at all. (security issue fixes i would always recommend updating for)
Acknowledged, thank you for your clarification. The problem continues even after updating via Windows Dragon Center. When I try to update through a USB stick, it leads to the computer restarting, then a black screen, requiring a CMOS battery reset before returning to version 1.60. I’ll attempt the update again and will update you on the outcome.
Issue remains unchanged after updating to 1.7, no access to Windows anymore.
Sure, ignore the update. It looks like something is broken or just needs more time for the fix.
