I recently purchased an Asus Rog Strix Z790-I and 14700K, planning to pair them with my productivity monitor that only features a Thunderbolt port. Initially, everything functioned fine, but occasionally the system would fail to boot unless I connected another display via USB-C → DVI adapter, after which it would start immediately. I decided to update the BIOS. My motherboard had 1303 installed, and the latest version was 1801. The update didn’t succeed, leaving my CPU’s Q-LED on while fans sped up and then slowed down repeatedly. I was able to reinstall 1303, but now only HDMI output on my board or a discreet GPU could connect. I verified all motherboard settings to ensure accuracy. After extensive troubleshooting, I realized Windows doesn’t recognize a Thunderbolt controller and shows no related devices. I went through every BIOS revision, performed CMOS resets, and adjusted settings, yet nothing worked. While I await a response from ASUS, are there additional diagnostic steps I can take? I have an EFI shell but don’t know how to use it, and I’m about to boot into Linux to check if the system detects the Thunderbolt controller. TIA.
