Hi everyone, I’m facing an issue with my old self-built PC. Seven years ago I assembled it with 8GB of RAM and everything functioned perfectly. Five years later, I upgraded to 16GB, but only 12GB remained active—no clear reason. I let it sit since that amount was sufficient for me. Recently, I noticed just 8GB are operational. My PC specs are listed in the attached text file. The motherboard is P8Q77-M2, RAM includes four 4GB modules (two newer ones), and the CPU is an Intel Core i5 3570. I updated the BIOS but didn’t see any improvement. It seems each RAM stick works independently or as a pair, regardless of age. In BIOS and Windows, all modules appear to be present. When trying to install more than two sticks at once in BIOS, only 8GB shows up. In CPU-Z it still displays the full 16GB. Since I’ve already replaced the CPU and everything is running fine with just one or two sticks, I’m not sure what’s causing this limitation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Olivenlord 😊

Charge the CMOS for 30 seconds to a minute, then power it back up with all memory installed—what happens next?

Have you checked each RAM stick separately? Did they all function properly?

I quit and realized just 8gb of memory is enough.
