A short while ago I observed my laptop functioning with just 8 GB of RAM even though it originally had 16 GB. After reviewing the specs and using CPU-Z, it displayed only 8 GB installed, whereas the BIOS listed 16 GB. I attempted various online solutions: MSCONFIG was unchecked, REGEDIT set memory management to 1, and I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool with no errors. The Memory Remapping option in BIOS wasn’t present. The issue appears distinct from typical RAM shortages—it’s that Windows reports only 8 GB installed while the BIOS claims more. Attached are all screenshots and device details. Thank you ahead of time.

Update your RAM modules, test by replacing them to check if a specific stick or port is defective

Sure, I can attempt it one stick at a time.

If it appears in BIOS, consider reinstalling Windows or booting from a Linux installation medium. You can run it from the install medium without replacing your operating system.

Execute MSCONFIG, navigate to the Boot section, explore the Advanced Options, and verify whether your RAM allocation is restricted to 8GB.

I'm sorry for the mistake. Typically I start with a live Manjaro/PopOS environment to address the OS problem.

The issue seems to lie with the slot: RAM functioned normally in other laptops, but it didn't recognize it on this one. When booting Ubuntu, no RAM was detected. The BIOS shows 12 GB of RAM, while only 4 GB is present. Speccy identified the RAM in that slot after testing a 4 GB barrette.

I also faced a comparable problem recently; changing both RAM resolved it. You might also consider cleaning the RAM slots using a brush or compressed air.
