Read the article from IGN about the battlefield update. It mentions a report suggesting the situation in World War I may be similar to current events, based on information from a retailer.

When something is old, it may lose its appeal. If it’s enjoyable, it might lack depth and accuracy.

Absolutely, it's a significant shift from what we're used to with BF4 and hardline (if anyone plays that on PC). The weapon variety is limited, the terrain is similar across maps, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. As you mentioned, it might be too shallow.

BF5 and other similar games? Honestly, I’m not really into them. I don’t even play those games, so I’m not familiar with them.

It's a completely different vibe. I'm exhausted by all those futuristic FPS games.

Verdun takes place during World War I amidst trench warfare, offering some exciting scenes. I think a BF game would resemble it quite closely, adding biplanes and classic tanks to the mix.

If the game is named BF5, it shouldn't be set during WW2. It wouldn't make sense for it to shift to older eras like BF2, BF3, or BF4 more often. Going back to WW1 doesn't fit well either, as there would be little new content to add. It's better to keep the modern theme going or move toward a near-future setting—though not as extreme as the approaches taken by AW and Blops 3.
