Don't reduce it unless it causes the game to crash. I recommend playing through and exiting when you finish or leave the menu. Avoid constantly switching between window and fullscreen using alt + enter in most programs. If you need to switch to desktop, use alt + tab and keep a "work" document open so the system recognizes you're busy with school.
I use fullscreen mode, then hit alt plus enter to search, but it switches to a windowed view which is annoying, so I reduce the size and that's it.
