Playing multiplayer has been going on for just a couple of days now, but some servers seem to have the terms "for" and "Noobs" in their descriptions. I'm a private player in BF3, having spent around two hours, and I've experienced some frustration on a server labeled as "noob." It's surprising how hard it is to pick up the basics that way. I think BF4 might be a better option, though I've only played under an hour so far. I own BF3 Premium, BF4 Digital Deluxe (including China Rising), and Dragon's Teeth.

BF3 servers are mainly controlled by skilled players, so it's best to hop onto any active rush server. With BF4 the situation is similar. Try to steer clear of beginner servers—they often become easy targets.

The top servers for improving skills or gaining experience are those with a skill rating or KDR cap. This lets you interact with players who aren’t highly skilled or enjoy more relaxed gameplay until regular servers become too frustrating. You can’t eliminate all disruptive players completely, as some intentionally lower their stats to disrupt smaller groups, but it’s a practical compromise. Hope this is useful!

Some servers stand out more than others, my preference is to avoid joining a complete server and instead mix different game modes. Most players ignore "noob" servers. To be truthful, I'm not a beginner myself, but I'm not someone who plays FPS games like BF4 or NinjaXPwiZard. I usually play on a no-explosions metro server. The warning about explosives in the server description seems to be misleading—people still use items like grenades and C4 despite the rules. It's hard for them to understand or even care about the guidelines.

Thanks! I'm glad to hear it. I'll keep looking for good servers—it's a lot of fun in multiplayer gaming, you know? I'm not using VOIP right now; I'm using my Hi-Fi headphones (Goldring DR150). I set up Mumble and used an old webcam as the audio input. Also, I don't think you need Mumble/TS for solo play like "all by myself"—no platoons or anything.

I’m not sure about your skill in FPS games, but I can generally handle gameplay with basic equipment. If you’re comfortable with shooting and aiming, joining 24/7 Operation Locker servers could help boost your gear ranking and unlock better class options. Unless you prefer intense play, connecting with friends on VOIP and playing together in standard Conquest servers might suit you better. For mastering the game, try a Teamspeak server and work with others to learn the basics.

In terms of the battlefield, earning a high rank doesn't necessarily indicate strong skill, and achieving a high rank doesn't guarantee superior equipment. The starter weapons remain just as challenging as some later versions. Keep pushing forward!

I've been doing this for roughly an hour and a half. Playing conquest large. A few players are solid, respect—this FPS thing I started about a month ago at my age... well, I’ve turned 25 a couple of times now. Now I’m a private 1st class with two stars, lol.
