Used a sponge paired with clear tape to fasten it securely. This seems like the most affordable method I've observed.

If there isn't a better option, I'll proceed with that. A £700 chip is difficult to obtain, but I aim for the optimal solution despite the cost.

Use an anti-static bag and bubble wrap to provide additional safeguards.

Consider visiting a shop for unused zen CPUs or at least their casing.

We lack online retailers similar to Mem Express in the UK; instead, PC World offers parts but lacks knowledgeable staff. Providing a blank space won’t help.

I keep a collection of CPUs in a box, covering them with paper towels and storing them inside. It’s been done for ten years without any bending issues.

Use a cardboard or plastic box, place the CPU inside, consider adding silica gel packets to absorb moisture if needed, and store it in your desk. When installing, remove old thermal paste and apply fresh one. I’ve stored CPUs in candy tin cans, safety match boxes, or similar containers—just keep notes on where you found them. You could also line the box with material to prevent movement if you expect frequent relocation. For a more polished look, visit a jewelry store and request a small presentation box; they likely have options.
