Reddit software swaps appears to work well. Most users on the site have tried it, and many recommend it highly.

Do you attend a school, university, or technical institute? Many people mention /r/microsoftsoftwareswap, but it isn't always safe and could be a scam. If you get something from your school, university, or technical institute, it might be free.

Do you belong to a student group? Likely you can receive a free key. Otherwise, you may need to install Linux and build your savings.

Sorry, there isn't a student edition available for Windows 10. You'll only find it at a lower price if your school provides copies.

There are student editions of 8.1 AFAIK, and if your school provides it at no cost, you'll have access without paying.

Safest way to obtain it is to buy it new. You might hear people say they had success at getting a copy for cheaper than retail from the likes of reddit and such, but you always have a chance at being scammed, so don't forget that.

I received my copy by purchasing eight student versions for $60, and later upgraded to ten when the new version was released.
