Dad's outdated computer isn't worth upgrading because it won't justify the cost. I plan to perform a fresh installation tomorrow. Which operating system would provide optimal speed? P.S. Only Windows versions between 7 and 10 are acceptable.

It's odd he managed to install Windows 10 on this machine, since a 32-bit version of Windows 7 should work fine.

My Windows Vista laptop had very little RAM. Wow, those specs are way better than the old laptop I owned back then. Any version of Windows would work. I'm sure the processor supports 64-bit, so always use it when possible. If you like, go with Windows 7 for more than 700 updates or Windows 10. Don't touch Windows 8. Please.

It's generally not recommended to use 64-bit on machines with less than 4GB of memory. 64-bit requires significantly more resources, around 300-500MB more RAM.

My setup hasn’t been the same. Upgrading to Windows 7 required under a gig of memory. Windows 10 runs smoothly thanks to many background tasks like antivirus and drivers.

I suggest choosing 10 for better speed. I previously used Windows 7 Ultimate on a similar machine, which might work, but it could be sluggish in certain areas.

Checking 32-bit versus 64-bit with just 2 GB of RAM. Many people mention that 64-bit can use more memory, but it really depends on what you're running.

I believe there are roughly 270 updates when someone installs a fresh Windows 7 from an unupdated base. Yet individuals can obtain latest ISO files for Windows 7 containing SP1 and all security patches. Still, the update procedure remains straightforward—just start it.
