Hi,
I’m trying to put together a parts list for my first gaming PC. I have a budget of $200 to $250 and plan to use a Ryzen 9800X3D CPU with an Nvidia 4080 graphics card. I’ll need an Ethernet connection but also want the option for Wi-Fi. Since I’m new to PCs, I’m unsure which features are essential. I need plenty of USB ports and USB C connections, and I’ve heard that a BIOS flashback feature is beneficial. I also know it’s tough to future-proof, but I want to make the most out of my budget. Thanks!

Here are some key aspects to consider when narrowing down options:
- How many NVMe ports will you need now and in the coming years? 2 or 4?
- What kind of monitor connections do you require? Display Port, HDMI, or more than one?
- How many system fan connectors are necessary? 3 or 5?
- Do you prefer a full ATX setup over micro ATX? Or are you neutral?
- Are you planning to use very high-speed RAM?
- Do you have specific requirements for the sound chip on the board?
- Is there anything unusual about your use case? Just gaming? No overclocking? No heavy loads for long?
- Within your price range, I’d consider MSI Mag Mortar series or Gigabyte Aorus Elite. Including micro ATX models unless you strongly dislike them. I haven’t checked Asrock yet—they might have some options.
- You should be able to review the spec sheets of potential candidates between 200 and 250, which could help you reduce choices to around 3 to 5. After that, it’s mostly a matter of hoping for the best.

I would suggest you consider these two options:
The Asrock x870 board or the MSI x670E board.
The key distinctions lie in the I/O USB 4.0 ports on the x870 versus the additional M.2 slot on the x670E (four total compared to three on the x870). There are also minor variations in rear I/O USB ports and VRM configurations. The X670E includes a built-in Wi-Fi 6e card, while the X870 board features a Wi-Fi 7 card.
