I received a 5060ti with 16gb from Microcenter and have until June 1 to return it. I’ve been playing Red Dead Redemption 2 a lot lately and have started seeing artifacts in cut scenes. Most of the time normal gameplay works fine, but I’m weighing the option to return it and buy another 5060ti 16gb. Alternatively, I could get a 9070 or 9070xt if I need something better. If I decide to go with Nvidia, what are your thoughts on the 5070? Is there a lot of focus on VRAM for 1440p?

I’ve used several AMD GPUs before and got the 5060ti 16gb for 471 with tax. They have some 5070s around 600, while the 9070s are closer to 700.

Thoughts? Or what’s the best stress test to evaluate my current card? I bought the 5060ti without the 2-year warranty, but if I switch to a new card, I might consider getting one with a 9070 or 9070xt. I’m also thinking about whether VRAM is important for 1440p.

Thanks!

Artifacts may stem from drivers, particularly with new hardware such as this. Have you adjusted any settings to check for persistence of these issues? It seems Microcenter performs well.

I believe I may have changed from Vulkan to dx12. I might return it and purchase a new card to secure the two-year warranty, just in case I face any RMA issues later.

Here’s the card I currently have: it was available for $429 MSRP, and its performance is acceptable.
https://www.microcenter.com/product...ke...phics-card

I’m considering whether to upgrade to a 5070 or 9070, though the cheapest 9070 is $659. They also have a 9070xt for $699, which I’m unsure about but am thinking about.

If I decide to trade up for a more reasonable option, there are some cards available:
https://www.microcenter.com/product...d-...phics-card
It’s labeled SFF and I’m wondering if it would fit in a standard case or look out of place.

PSU: https://www.newegg.com/thermaltake-...00...6817153436
Case: https://www.microcenter.com/product...pe...case-white
Board: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-TUF-B650-PLU...B0BHN7GGBQ
I’d need to verify, it seems to match this RAM kit.
Laptop: https://www.microcenter.com/product...l-...0z36-black
With a Ryzen 7 7700 non-x, Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 (white with RGB fans), and a 500GB NVMe SSD for booting, plus a 2TB NVMe and 2TB SATA SSD for storage.

I found this 5070 for $599. It’s conveniently near my home, about 40 minutes away. I’m considering swapping my 5060ti for this model and adding a two-year warranty through Microcenter. Though the reviews aren’t great because of the fans, it’s the most affordable 5070 I’ve seen, and with their warranty I think it’ll be simple to get it replaced if needed.

Updated. Proceeded with ddu to eliminate drivers and reinstall the newest one, still encountering artifacts. Considering the 9070xt option.

Yeah. Standard 5000 series Nvidia drivers work well. I often run stress tests using Furmark and 3D Time Spy (looping). I might be good for gaming. If you notice it in several games, I’d consider it. I’d pick the 9070 as my choice 😉

They have a 9070 xt AsRock steel model for $699. Considering it, I might decide to buy it.

If it's just RDR2 I'd bet on it being tailored for that title rather than something tied to the card. I understand the perks of a warranty via Micro Center to skip the return process. If you want to keep the card for a while, a 5060 Ti 16GB or a 9070 XT would be sensible due to the extra VRAM. I don't think it'll become a major concern soon, though we've already encountered some models needing 12GB for advanced settings.

For graphics testing, I usually run benchmarks from any games installed with built-in support. I also have 3D Mark available and several tests to try.

It’s something I thought about getting upgraded in a couple of months to a year, even though the card isn’t really underperforming. My plan is to go with 1440p, which means a 5060ti or 5070 works just fine. The 9070xt could be a bit too much but it’s close to the 5070. A 5080 would be overkill and a 5070ti is similar to a 9070xt but costs more. I checked a vanilla 9070, which are 659, so for a little extra you could opt for the xt. It’s one of those cases where the 5060ti at MSRP makes a lot of sense, though I wouldn’t hesitate to get the warranty.

It might be better to hold off until the super cards are released, as the rumor suggests they could boost the VRAM.
