I am considering a computer upgrade mainly for Minecraft and needing fast loading with plenty of chunks. I aim for smooth performance and high FPS, especially with the Sodium mod. Right now I own a Ryzen 5 5600, play games like Teardown, BeamNG Drive, Sons of The Forest, and many others. I’m also planning to play GTA VI on PC.

This upgrade isn’t just about speed. I plan to purchase an ASUS ROG STRIX X870-F when it launches, since I require numerous USB-C ports for charging and using Apple devices, plus future-proofing. According to what I’ve read, my motherboard has quite an outdated Ethernet chip, so a newer one would be beneficial. I’ve also noticed some issues on Windows 11, possibly linked to the motherboard. For instance, my Ethernet connection drops for about 30 seconds after booting.

I’m evaluating whether a Ryzen 7 9700X or Ryzen 7 7800X3D would be better suited for Minecraft. I understand Minecraft runs on a single core, but could extra cache improve performance? Would Intel be a more suitable choice?

My current setup includes:
- AMD Ryzen 5 5600
- ASUS ROG STRIX X570-F
- Corsair 2x8GB 3600Mhz CL16 RAM
- ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 3070 (likely upgrading to RTX 5080)
- Corsair RM850X 850W PSU

Hey there,
The main factor affecting everything is the monitor resolution you're using. The 7800x3d offers superior performance for pure FPS and provides better 1% lows for smoother gameplay. Other problems with Windows 11 might stem from corrupt or missing files. Run SFC and DISM:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...em...6e85d4094e
Are all system drivers current?
What BIOS version are you running?

It is better to use an external USB hub instead of charging several devices directly on your motherboard.

I own a 165Hz, 1440P LG monitor GL850. The Ethernet problem isn't caused by damaged system files, as I've reinstalled Windows multiple times before and the issue remained consistent each time. The BIOS is current, and all system drivers are up to date. The main concern is whether the 7800X3D runs better with Minecraft compared to a 9700X, and if so, whether it takes advantage of extra cache. Since this game demands strong single-core performance, the 7800X3D might actually reduce performance if it doesn't make use of the additional cache. At least according to my knowledge.

I already have several wires, and it might not look very nice on my table. Right now, I only use the single port I have for charging my Apple Watch, but it bothers me when I need to unplug it to connect my Samsung T7 Shield.
