Best cooler setup for my case?
Best cooler setup for my case?
Hey everyone! I have an old computer with these specs:
- AMD Phenom II X965
- Nvidia Gtx 560
- Case - Cooler Master Elite 371
I'm not trying to make it faster, but when I play games in the summer (it's spring, but it's been really hot lately), my computer gets super warm. I know this CPU gets hot, but last night it shut down while playing Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain and today it happened again when I played CS:GO. I really want to get some better coolers.
The case I have is the Cooler Master Elite 371. What should I use as a cooler?
REMINDER:
I live in a place where things are expensive, so I can only buy Corsair AF120 or SP120 this month, and next month another pair. That's it.
Thanks a lot and sorry for my English.
P.S. I'm not super techy, just explain simple like for a 5-year-old. 😛

It would help to know what cooling you have now.
Which and how many case fans and what position they are in, cpu cooler, cable management.
Need to monitor temps and report.
Instal Hwmonitor 64 or something similar. Then you will know if heat related problem or not.
I'm not sure, I have a stock cooler in the back of the case and that's all :/ (I think theres one below the cpu?)
I tried using Speedfan, Hwmonitor, core temp and still my core temp is 0ºc :/
Ok, sounds like you have one rear case fan and of course one on cpu cooler.
If that is the case then I would add the sp120's in the front positions of your case.
I think the SP's will be best becuase the drive cage in the front of your case will be...

I recommend the cm212evo. I might suggest cryptic h7, though it could be difficult to obtain in some areas.

I can't afford the CM212EVO I can only afford the corsair af120 and sp120

It would be useful to understand your current cooling setup.
Knowing the number and placement of case fans, CPU cooler, and cable management would help.
Monitoring temperatures and reporting them is important.
I plan to install Hwmonitor 64 or a similar tool to check for heat issues.
I’m not sure yet, but I have a stock cooler in the back of the case and that seems sufficient :/ (I think there’s one below the CPU?)
I’ve tried Speedfan, Hwmonitor, core temp monitoring, but my CPU temperature is still 0ºC :/
Looks like you likely have a rear case fan and one on the CPU cooler.
If that’s the situation, adding SP120 fans in front positions might be better.
The front drive cage could restrict airflow, so keeping the CPU cooler clean from dust would be wise.
Biglizard suggested checking the current cooling setup, including fan types, numbers, placement, and temperatures. He recommended installing Hwmonitor 64 or a similar tool to track heat levels and monitor performance. He mentioned having a stock cooler in the back and noted that using Speedfan, Hwmonitor, and core temp monitoring didn't resolve the issue. He advised adding SP120 fans in front positions and ensuring the CPU cooler is clean from dust, possibly placing one on the side as well.
It would be useful to understand your current cooling setup. Could you tell me the number and positions of the case fans, the CPU cooler, and how cables are managed? I need to track temperatures and ensure everything is functioning properly.
I’m not certain, though—I have a stock cooler in the back of the case and believe there might be one below the CPU. I’ve tried Speedfan, Hwmonitor, core temperature monitoring, but my CPU temp remains at 0ºC.
It seems you likely have one rear case fan and another on the CPU cooler. If that’s the situation, adding SP120 fans in front positions could help, as the front drive cage may restrict airflow.
Make sure the CPU cooler is clean from dust. Perhaps adding a front fan and one on the side would be more effective. It might be cheaper to buy two fans instead of one.
In your setup, there doesn’t appear to be additional venting in the rear. Usually, heated air from the GPU exits through rear vents and is replaced by cooler air from the CPU cooler. A front fan feeding the CPU cooler and a rear exhaust handling the airflow would work well.
Generally, smooth airflow from front to back is important. Obstructions like cables or drive cages can disrupt this, causing components to reheat themselves. This reduces the efficiency of both GPU and CPU coolers.
Have you checked for dust buildup on your CPU cooler?
