Hi! On the home network, we have two Google Wi-Fi mesh points – one connected to a NETGEAR modem for the ADSL connection, and another two floors up. I run a Linux NAS server that helps me share files across devices. I’m trying to figure out the best place to connect my NAS.

The mesh point in the loft is linked to a switch that connects all PCs via Ethernet, and the NAS is mainly used for media tasks. You mentioned the mesh point gets power from a switch, not directly from the modem. Since all systems run Gigabit Ethernet and you don’t need external access, I’m unsure whether to plug the NAS into the main mesh hub or the loft access point.

Maybe connecting the NAS directly to the NETGEAR modem would give you the fastest speeds, or using the loft mesh point could work if it’s hardwired. I’d also like to know if the main hub handles processing and needs data sent back and forth. Please let me know what you think!
