I'm transitioning from my laptop to a dedicated gaming PC and am figuring out the best way to link it to the internet. After checking wired setups, I realize running an Ethernet cable isn't feasible since the rented space doesn’t allow it. Powerline also seems out of the question due to limited outlet availability—only two downstairs, one occupied by the router and another by a surge protector. Moving the router upstairs isn’t possible either. I’m weighing two main choices: buying a motherboard with built-in Wi-Fi (MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC for £130) or opting for the Tomahawk Max (£90) and investing the extra £40 in an external dongle or PCI card. Neither option is familiar to me, so I’m seeking advice on which path makes more sense. Would it be better to purchase a budget dongle for around £15 and redirect those funds elsewhere in my build? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Obtain the tomahawk and consider this link: https://www.newegg.com/asus-pce-ac55bt-b...6833320333. The interfaces used on boards with built-in Wi-Fi are subpar.

It's not feasible because there are many alternatives available, but wiring remains the quickest and most dependable option. I strongly suggest using it whenever it's practical.

Landlord and I share the house with another guest, and neither of us wants to drill holes. I offered to install the cable properly, hide it, and secure it, but he refused. It seems like we won't be able to resolve this without a fight.
