Benefits of Windows 9?
No one knows for sure which operating system will work best for gaming. Windows 9 hasn't been released yet, so opinions are still forming. Windows 8.1 is currently popular and might offer a solid choice.
How are we supposed to understand this? It hasn't been made available for developers yet...
Generally, it takes time for developers and publishers to adjust and fix issues that arise from new operating systems, especially if full backward compatibility isn’t guaranteed. Right now, version 8.1 seems to be the most stable option, though it’s hard to say for sure what would work with version 9. It’s unlikely anyone truly knows if 9 is better without testing it first.
According to current information, it appears to be the sole Windows OS with DX12 compatibility.
This happened because Vista was the initial operating system to adopt the NT 6 kernel, while XP relied on NT 5. When most hardware struggled, Microsoft announced that applications and drivers from Vista would function in XP. With the release of Windows 7, which uses the NT 6.1 kernel, they assured compatibility with Vista programs. Since subsequent operating systems followed the 6.x kernel line—8 using 6.2 and 8.1 using 6.3—compatibility was maintained.
Truly, if Microsoft had simply reissued Win8 without the Metro feature, everyone would be thrilled.
