Benchmarking my overclock...
Hello Community,
I've been maintaining a consistent overclock for some time now, but lately my game Mad Max has started experiencing issues and locking up. I was curious if anyone had encountered similar problems or if my Overclocked Configuration (OC) wasn't as reliable as I believed. I usually run Heaven Benchmark for my graphics card and perform stress tests with 3dmark.
Here are my current specifications: I didn’t face any issues until I began using 4K resolution. I connected my 4K TV so I could demonstrate the setup on the HTC Vive (which is on its way, I’m excited about it). I’m wondering if my OC was stable at 1080p but struggled at 4K?
* i7 6700K (operating at 1.23 v, capable of reaching 5.0, though I aimed for longevity)
* Corsair H110i
* ROG Asus Hero Alpha
* 16 GB Trident Z 3200 RAM
* 1000 watt Roswell power supply
* ROG Strix 1080 (1972, 11GB RAM; according to Heaven it’s running at 2126 MHz)
* A large number of fans, with a radiator mounted on top
While running Heaven and 3dmark at 4K, my GPU temperatures stayed below 68°C and the CPU never exceeded 55°C. So temperature doesn’t seem to be the issue.
I’d appreciate some recommendations for software testing my OC further to confirm it’s not the problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Adam
Is it feasible that my OC performed well at 1080 but struggles at 4K, leading to instability?
Yes
Rendering in 4K increases the load on the GPU compared to 1080p.
In short, you should reduce your OC settings for 4K if it isn't stable when running it.
Thanks for the input... I reduced the OC on the GPU slightly and it worked fine. It seems the original setting was a bit too high for 4K. I adjusted it a bit and it functions perfectly... I believe my CPU can reach 5.0, but maybe not... lol.
Interesting fact is that my adjustment was actually higher than what I was doing with the Asus GPU Tweak software. Switching to Afterburner gave me a more stable OC than before. Go with that...
