Beginner's manual for launching a gaming PC.
I’m upgrading from Ryzen 5 2600 and 1070 Ti to Ryzen 5 7600X and RX 4070 Super. I’ll stick with my existing case and storage—Keeping the old SSD/HDD, Kingston FURY Renegade Gen.4 1TB NVMe M.2. The new gear will be: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 4.7GHz, Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5 6000MHz CL36 Dual Channel, MSI PRO B650-S Wi-Fi, GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER VENTUS 2X OC, 12GB GDDR6X, 192-bit DLSS 3.0. I’d like the name longer if possible.
For the CPU installation, I’m new to PC building since the Ryzen 5 2600 was fresh. I need to check the BIOS after assembly. I noticed “kill the PS5” mentions “4G decoding,” “BAR Support,” but I’m confused about those terms. For the RAM, I bought it with Z36 instead of C36 due to some AMD tech—I’m not sure how to handle that. Are there any unexpected steps?
Regarding cooling, I plan to use the Frostflow Cooling CPU cooler (free gift, worth ~$5). I spent another $5 on an ARCTIC AC MX-6 2gr. What should I watch for in BIOS settings?
I’m unsure about AIO setups—should I apply thermal paste? Are there special Windows tweaks or Nvidia configurations I need to adjust? I want everything to work smoothly, especially since I haven’t touched PC building in a while.
Lastly, can I tweak the Ryzen 5’s performance with that cooler? Any recommendations for boosting? I’m open to tips on optimizing DLSS 3.0, Tensor, Ansel, Reflex, and more. Thanks for any advice!
Have a great weekend everyone!
This applies to reBar. It can be implemented later, but I suggest activating it along with rebar—though that might wait until the PC is fully configured. What you need is a link to the instructions. Make sure the thermal paste spreads evenly; it’s likely already set to the highest PCIe version. These settings usually depend on the game and its support features. If the game has a toggle in its settings (typically under video options), you can turn it on there. This guide is mainly for DLSS and Reflex, and you can update your BIOS afterward, though that’s optional.
From Corsair website: "CMK32GX5M2E6000C36 is a DDR5 module built for Intel motherboards, offering improved speeds and expanded capacities using the latest DDR5 tech in a sleek, compact design. The CMK32GX5M2D6000Z36 provides the same benefits but tailored for AMD Ryzen AM5 systems." So I chose "Z36" to be certain. Thank you for sharing all this helpful details—I really value it!
