Beginner in Overclocking. Issues with XMP on 3600Hz RAM
I recently assembled my initial PC and am eager to optimize my RAM usage. I’m encountering difficulties with XMP settings and would appreciate some guidance. I possess a solid understanding of computers and hardware but have never attempted overclocking before. Here are the details of my build: Motherboard – Asus ROG Strix Z490-E Gaming (BIOS version 9001, now updated to 1003) CPU – Intel i7 10700K RAM – 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3600 (4x8GB) CMK16GX4M2D3600C18 GPU – Asus DUAL-RTX2060-O6G-EVO (single card, fans are okay) SSD – two WD Black SN750 NVMe drives (500GB OS + 1TB storage) Cooling – Corsair Hydro H100i cooler PSU – Corsair CX-M 650W 80Plus Bronze When I initially set everything up, I adjusted the RAM’s DRAM frequency to 3600Hz in BIOS, which led to crashes. I switched back to 2133 and achieved stability. I found an article explaining XMP profiles vs. 1 versus 2 and it helped me understand the differences. I tried profile 1 but ended up with a blue screen error at startup. Returning to 2133 resolved the issue. What’s the best way to locate a stable overclock for my RAM? I plan to keep the processor unchanged for now, aiming for around 3200Hz or closer to 3600. Since the RAM is sold in two 8GB modules, are the XMP profiles designed for that setup instead of four 8GB modules? Did I overlook something when configuring them? I’ve attached an image of the XMP 1 profile. Thanks for your assistance! GingerSpock 20201231_030235224_iOS.heic
Download Aida64 via motherboard ->SPD. Review the XMP profile with timing details (beyond BIOS SPD), capture the image or note them down. Adjust BIOS settings: frequency to 3600, DRAM voltage to 1.35V, and set all listed timings from Aida, leaving others automatic.
DoctorNick, the BIOS settings are stuck at 'auto' with no changes made. It looks like the DRAM voltage is also locked. I might need to revert to an older BIOS version since this update seems focused on enabling resizable BAR. I noticed my previous image was saved in HEIC format and didn't display properly. I'm planning to test it again using JPEG instead.
