The title was a bit unclear to me. Currently, I’m using Windows 7 on a machine running Windows 7. I intend to set up a fresh build soon and think it would make sense to wait until July 29 when Windows 10 is released. At that point, will I need to install my existing Windows 7 copy first on the new system, or can I simply download and install Windows 10 right away?

The article mentions compatibility issues with older systems. It notes that KB3035583 works only on Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1, so the update was applied to a Windows 8 machine without the newer version, which meant the upgrade prompt for Windows 10 wasn’t triggered.
