Nope. The tale is really straightforward and the characters are brand new. You'll grasp it without trouble.
The games share very little in common. Occasionally there are some story elements, but the sequence is really meaningless or even significant.
Consider playing the RE remake only if you enjoy tank controls—it also offers non-tank options, though they don’t alter the challenging feel.
I really love tank controls, and RE1 Remake is one of my favorites, though many people dislike the controls (the main advantage here is that it’s not necessary to play RE2).
By the way, RE0 is a total waste of time.
I've begun playing re2 since I really liked the movie version. However, I don't think the game's value at 60$ is justified. The lack of melee combat or stealth elements isn't appealing to me. I preferred a plague tale instead. Appreciate the clarification!
Following your game session, for similar experiences, consider trying Daymare: 1998.
I finished it without any enthusiasm. I might think about playing as Leon in the far future, but the game was full of frustration. It was hard to complete without internet help because the objective explanations were very poor. Having to fix a puzzle only to solve part of a larger one, the slow pace, lack of attractive visuals, and no character development are all reasons I don’t recommend this game to others.
Unfortunately, I believe these titles aren't suited for you—this is why I suggested avoiding RE1. Everything you thought was "frustrating" in RE2 is even more so in RE1. You also didn’t complete the game; not just because you only played part of it, but because the aim of these games is to reach S+ on the hardest setting, which I question you really tried.
To be clear, these are essentially arcade-style time attack games. Any other approach would be misguided and miss out on the joy of failure and disappointment.
I see ... Tbh I haven't played any of these. It's a bit disappointing you didn't enjoy RE2 because it's really a masterpiece—though some criticisms are valid, like the lack of interaction between characters, which doesn't detract from its status as one of the best games (and remakes) ever made. But! I definitely believe it's not ideal for someone starting out in the series... I don't know if you've tried any other titles, but RE5, Revelations 1+2, RE4, and even the more controversial ones like RE6 would be better choices to get a feel for the series since they're more modern and streamlined.
