I'm thinking about getting a BCLK enabled board and wanted to know if upgrading my i5 6400 would be worthwhile (around 110 dollars).

if you're thinking about an overclock build, it's probably not the best idea. the cost isn't worth it for just BLCK overclocking. you'll need a new board and cooler, so it might be smarter to stick with a 6600K or Z170.
