Hey there! I see you're having some trouble with Linux and Steam. It sounds like you've tried quite a few fixes already. Have you checked if your system is up to date or if there are any recent updates that might affect Steam? Also, make sure your USB setup is correct and that you're using the right drivers. If you're still stuck, maybe look into alternative ways to run Steam or consider switching to another OS altogether. Let me know what you find!

If you haven't updated bazzite, the problem lies with bazzite itself. For some reason, its image doesn't work on your hardware. Modifying bazzite can be tricky, and I've stopped trying because their latest release isn't compatible with my GPU. Other operating systems might suit better—like Holoiso or Nobara?

I've tested Linux Mint, Pop_OS, Nobara, Ubuntu, and Bazzite—each had its problems. Nobara came out on top with the fewest issues. HoloISO is gone now. No more updates.

this refers to a feature or setting in the game that allows returning to a previous state or menu. it’s not just confusing wording—it’s a real option. you can still play games normally, and testing without the big picture mode is definitely possible. whether it works on windows or linux depends on the specific game and its configuration.

I really don’t understand, but if you try Fedora Silverblue (GNOME) or Kinoite (KDE) and Steam functions correctly there, the problem might just be related to Bazzite. You said Ubuntu, Pop_OS! worked for you—maybe the main issues are with the Steam package on Bazzite. Personally, I stick to normal Fedora 40 (GNOME) and haven’t had any trouble with Steam or games. Those gaming distros often come from less-maintained forks with extra packages. Unless you have a specific reason, I’d skip Bazzite, especially if you’re new to Linux—facing such obstacles can be really frustrating.

the "return to gaming mode" is a quick access on the desktop so I can launch the Steam Deck's "Gaming Mode" or Bir Picture. it doesn't function properly. I can play any of my Steam games, but I haven't tried emulated titles yet. Big Picture mode works smoothly in and out. This is just a minor annoyance, but having to log in every time I start feels frustrating. I was thinking about switching to Linux to get the same experience on my Steam Deck.

I’m looking for an OS that lets me run Steam, Emudeck, and Decky Loader smoothly without lagging behind Windows. POP_OS had problems where Gamescope didn’t work with emulated games, so I ended up using the Xbox controller’s “OS” button instead of switching OSes. Linux Mint failed to install the Early Access version of Emudeck, or it crashed and asked for a reinstall. Ubuntu seemed to have both issues, making its Desktop setup unpredictable. Nobara doesn’t include Gamescope like Steam does, but I’ve faced temperature issues with it—sometimes it shows temps and sometimes it doesn’t. ASUSctl didn’t help much on my laptop either. Maybe I’ll try another OS and see if the fans actually work.

@jhogan93 If GameScope is essential, I can't assist further since I've only used it on SteamDeck. On desktop, I rely on BigPicture mode with MangoHUD—available for launch on PC if a controller is immediately accessible for control. The layout is nearly the same but with fewer features. You should configure MangoHUD once and then use a key shortcut to enable or disable it, plus another key shortcut if you need to adjust your FPS limit, such as changing settings.
