The latest Battlefront II is an expensive pay-to-win experience that’s taken on massive scale. It’s priced at $80. No one should back it. On the flip side, the older version offers multiplayer features, lets everyone begin with identical weapons, and allows upgrades via skill-based classes such as headshots or slicing. It’s around $5 to $10 on Steam. Need advice on choosing between them for Christmas?

This might seem like a joke, but it really hits the mark and carries some solid insight. Claim the inheritance.

I personally find the 2005 Battlefront 2 to be a total waste. It felt like an overhyped title at best. The multiplayer was decent but limited, and the campaign was really lacking (the cutscenes were decent). The 2017 version’s multiplayer is still a bit shaky, isn’t it? I definitely wouldn’t change my mind. Republic Commando was solid—great game overall—but Battlefront 1 and 2 were both pretty disappointing. There are so many better Star Wars titles out there compared to this one. KOTOR, KOTOR 2, Force Unleashed 1 & 2, Jedi Knight series (especially Jedi Academy with its top-notch saber fights), etc.

He said it was really great. With tons of awesome mods still being created, even after 12 years, the game stays interesting. It’s a solid choice, but the visuals fall short compared to Battlefront II 2017.

The replay potential was very strong. The modding group has kept it going long after its release. EA made a major mistake by removing mod support, claiming users couldn’t handle the Frostbite engine.

The old man in me really likes the 2005 release more than the newer version. Battlefront 2 and Battlefield 2 meant I had to push back my studies.
