Could it be that the Origin Servers caused the problem? The game exited to the desktop around 3 a.m. on June 2 without any error messages in the event log, just closing normally. I observed Origin briefly showing a white/grey screen and loading circle, but everything worked again. Just asking.

I was using Campaign Singleplayer MODE with ONLINE mode enabled for Origin. However, it seems I could play in offline mode too. If playing in OFFLINE mode is possible, does that mean I should still be connected to the servers EA?

There are incentives for multiplayer participation through single-player challenges. It's important to monitor these activities. I remember in BF3 you had to open the game from the Battlelog site, though if you couldn't, it would still start in single-player mode. I don't know if this feature was maintained later.
