I’m switching from my 7700k and got the Asus Strix B550i motherboard. I hope they release the 5600x or 5800x soon. The board needs a BIOS update to work with the new Ryzen CPU. Since the Asus board has a BIOS flashback port, should I be able to use it with the newer CPU directly, or would I need an older chip first?

Sure, you're all right, just use power and a USB drive to refresh it.

the only situation requiring additional actions is when you aim to use the CPU on a B450 board, as it doesn't fully support the CPU but may offer some beta or semi-support features.

Gather the mainboard, connect its power source and ensure it's powered on, then prepare the USB drive with the BIOS file. You can skip RAM, GPU, CPU, and other components since the USB BIOS Flashback method handles the BIOS update.
