I checked some articles and found a simpler method to reset your Windows default settings. I’m not very familiar with this process, so I didn’t do a clean install before or even consider it until now. That’s why I thought it would be easier for me.

Refreshing and resetting acts like restoring from a backup right after installing the operating system, saving your data temporarily. It’s okay for minor issues but doesn’t replace a full clean installation in your situation.

I switched from a Z87 motherboard to another Z87 model from the same maker (Gigabyte). Reinstalling Windows 7 was tricky—it often goes well or poorly. Also, because it’s an 8.1 model and OEM, the key won’t work on a new board.

I believe I was fortunate with the simplification of the AM2 platform I used, and the original setup from that system still works well. The Intel board I had, like the i3 540, is quite flexible.
