Bad Bios or the Worst CPU of Them All?
Hello, a few days back I planned a clean Windows install and thought about updating the BIOS from F5 to F21 (Latest Stable Version).
My rig setup:
i7 6700K + Kraken X62
Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 3
16gb DDR4 Avexir Blitz Red Led 3200mhz
1070 Gaming X
I’ve managed to run the 6700k at 4.5ghz with temperatures under 70°C even when using AIDA64 Extreme with the auto overclocking option and the XMP profile, which pushed RAM to 3200mhz.
After updating the BIOS it became completely impossible to reach 4.4ghz at 1.35v. I tried the latest beta version F22h but the result was the same. Then I went down to F20, which is the lowest I can go because after F20 the BIOS blocks further reductions due to the 7th generation chipset.
With F20 I can return to my usual 4.5ghz, but only if I set the voltage to 1.36v – it then reaches almost 85°C. Reaching 4.6ghz is not possible even with a boost of 1.4v.
What’s happening? Any suggestions?
