I need to reinstall Windows 7 soon and wanted to find out if it’s feasible to save the updates already installed. This would save time since I wouldn’t have to download them again. My system is Windows 7 Professional 32-bit, running on a Pentium 4 that isn’t an x86_64 processor. The data available is limited, so this information would be very helpful.

Backing up the update and the entire OS are closely connected after installation, making them similar concepts.

I figured as much; but updates aren't standalone things...they're patched onto the OS. So, I can't imagine there being anyway to backup just the updates. I feel like the easiest thing would be to clone an hdd with a good copy of windows on it, and then try and make it work with that computer. Or, you could always bring the computer to a Starbucks

I’m planning to upgrade to a bigger and faster SSD soon. This discussion brought back all the challenges I’ll face, especially since I need a fresh installation for my games.

If Microsoft had offered a service pack for it, it would have included some updates, but the chances of a successful download were low. You can find more details at the provided link.

Some guidelines have been adapted, but you need to be ready to accept the risk.

This won’t fix your issue with needing to download updates, but after you’ve downloaded everything onto a new installation, it’s a good idea to create a copy of the OS on an external drive. This way, when you reinstall Windows later, you won’t have to go through updates and you can simply switch back to that backup version.

Seems like your ISO might already be at version SP1.
