You're setting up your motherboard and wondering about the F panel cable. The connector on the board is bigger than the cable, so you probably shouldn't only use part of the slot. The cord should fit fully into the connector. This is the receiver on the board. Make sure you follow the manual sections you mentioned—you're not alone, and it's normal to feel a bit unsure.

Insert it into the left side of the F_PANEL header area. The right side should hold the POST speaker and an additional PWR_LED.
