B550m models compatible with Thunderbolt AIBs
I possess an MSI B550m Pro-vhd WiFi that I hadn't intended to swap, yet after researching it seems incompatible with Thunderbolt PCIe cards—something I planned to buy. Is there a catalog of B550m models that accommodate Thunderbolt add-ons? Are only the full B550 and X570 versions suitable? Or perhaps I'm approaching this incorrectly? My setup includes a work laptop (11th gen Intel) and a home desktop (AMD) with shared peripherals: a keyboard, mouse, monitor, plus another monitor supporting multiple inputs. Neither of my monitors has direct USB upstream, and only one offers multiple display connections. I require a more seamless transition between my work and leisure devices across two machines, without extra effort. I’m avoiding software fixes since they rarely deliver perfection, and I want to minimize connectors on my work laptop for better cable organization. Right now, I’m working with a single monitor that uses an HDMI switcher (not gaming-oriented, so latency isn’t a concern), but moving the keyboard and mouse is tiring. Every few weeks I’m at my office, not home, so having one cable instead of four would be much preferable. My idea is to route everything through a Thunderbolt switch with KVM and USB support.
I don't believe any b550 model supports tb, there are some on x570 but it's quite costly. For your needs, it doesn't handle displays, just data transfer. You should look for an HDMI KVM selector that switches all peripherals automatically with one click—similar to your HDMI switcher, plus keyboard and mouse.
