B450 Tomahawk paired with a Ryzen 3600 offers strong performance for demanding tasks.
Hi there, I've been searching for components and upgrades lately because the concept of a CPU upgrade crossed my mind. I currently have a Ryzen 2600 and an mSI B450 Tomahawk. Should I consider replacing my CPU? Will the 2600 still perform well with the latest games? What's the best CPU choice for my motherboard? Thanks to everyone!
Your board’s CPU is a 3900X and should handle it well. For the 2600, you could try a game first and see how it performs—upgrades are always an option. Since we don’t have the full system details, it’s not straightforward to say yes or no. However, with well-balanced parts in your setup, the 2600 usually works fine in new titles.
My 2600 is operating at about 30-40% on RDR2 with low settings and a 5700XT. The game heavily taxes GPUs. I have several older titles that stay under 50% CPU usage. Borderlands 3 also stays within that range. That’s all I’ve got from what I remember.
It draws very similar power levels to the 3900X. The B450 Tomahawk features a battery VRM that surpasses many X470 boards and even some X570 models.
Thanks for your input. You're right about the board's SOLID VRM and its capability to support high-end components like the 3900X. It does offer better VRM performance compared to older models such as x470 and even some x570 boards. As for the motherboard, it's not my main area of expertise in PC hardware, but I understand the importance of these parts. Your rig currently has a 16GB RAM at 3000MHz, which is fine now, though you might consider upgrading to 3200 or 3600 for better performance. The CPU is performing well, but it's limited by the GPU right now. You're working on optimizing your PC for Cyberpunk and exploring potential upgrades—great effort! Let me know if you need more details.
