B450 Tomahawk (md-7v02) supports NVMe 4.0 compatibility
Hello everyone, just starting here and hoping someone with similar interests can share their views. I mainly play games, so I don’t necessarily need an NVMe drive. Still, I thought upgrading to the latest version now would help protect my setup a bit for the future. Also, the cost of SSDs and NVMe 3.0 isn’t too far apart, so why not go with NVMe? I own a B450 Tomahawk that officially supports PCIe 3.0 according to its manual. Yet I’ve read conflicting information—some say it supports PCIe 4.0, others claim it might be limited or unstable. There are also discussions about a BIOS update potentially blocking PCIe 4.0 support. My instinct is to go with PCIe 4.0 if it’s stable, but I’m not very technical, so if it causes too many issues or requires complicated tweaks, I’d probably skip it. Thanks for any advice!
From my observations it seems unlikely, though I might be mistaken. PCIe 4.0 probably offers little real benefit in most scenarios. A 4.0 NVMe drive is generally unnecessary unless you have very particular requirements or want an extra performance boost. A standard Gen 3 SSD will work just as well.
