Hi, I'm working on a Ryzen 7 3700X build and getting confused about RAM speeds. My motherboard is a B450 Tomahawk Max, which claims support for over 4000 MHz. However, some sources say 3600 MHz isn't allowed. I checked my options—3200 MHz CL16 and 3600 MHz CL17/CL18. I want the higher speed, so I'm wondering what happens if I go with 3600 MHz.

The processor can handle speeds up to 3200mt/s. The board is capable of supporting higher rated memory. Your challenge will mainly be with the memory controller.

The BIOS supports options like 4266, and I've observed this board operating at 3600.

Check your options after AMD removed support for B450/X470 with Ryzen 4000. A B450 board might still work, but consider an X570 for future upgrades.

Yes, but the cost of X570 is twice what B450 costs (that’s why). Since I don’t intend to upgrade the CPU soon, I believe B450 will suffice. X570 is likely to lower its price back to the B450 level before I need it. So should I be okay? Thanks! Are you confident about this? Many reviews recommend going for 3600MHz...
